CBERN Atlantic Hub
In 2008 the Atlantic Hub of the Canadian Business Ethics Research Network was established with an Atlantic Steering Committee formed the following year. The Hub is hosted through the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Public Affairs (CCEPA), sharing staff, office space and a commitment to programming public events on ethics topics of interest in the region and nationally.
The Atlantic Hub exists to build CBERN's network in the Atlantic provinces:
- To connect, inform, and engage CBERN members in regards to business ethics research projects, events, and opportunities in the region, and;
- To facilitate cross pollination and dialogue amongst people, organizations, and institutions that are interested in business ethics.
Topics explored through research and public presentations in the Atlantic region have aligned with CBERN research clusters in these areas:
- Social and corporate governance practices as it relates to the functions of governing boards
- The ways beliefs and values of spirituality inform leadership and organizational practices
- Safeguarding human rights through a clear and transparent immigration policy
- Increased understanding of the Atlantic economy in terms of its assets, liabilities, and the creative solutions, which will be of use in fostering greater and more equitable economic growth.
Currently the Atlantic Hub comprises over 150 individuals or organizations. Many of these member profiles can be viewed on the Canadian Business Ethics Directory on the CBERN website.
The prime focus of the Atlantic Hub in 2010-11 was Business and Spirituality. CBERN co-hosted a day-long symposium with CCEPA and the Centre for Spirituality in the Workplace at Saint Mary’s University on Values and Spirituality in the Workplace. This symposium paved the way for our second focus, assisting in planning of the CBERN 2011 Annual Conference in Halifax which included a follow up discussion, with participants from across Canada and beyond, on spirituality in business.
