The Annual Conference will explore how businesses, governments and standards systems can create partnerships to reach sustainability goals. We will look at the dual leading role that governments can play to 1) use standards to stimulate markets for sustainable goods and services and 2) develop co-regulation to limit the market for illegally traded, unsustainable goods and services. We will explore a range of sectors and geographies across which this trend plays and examine its impact on the sustainability standards movement as a whole. Sustainable public procurement in emerging economies will also be a key topic on this year’s conference agenda, as will the governmental use of standards in new sectors such as tourism, mining, green building, etc. The ISEAL conference will also provide a valuable opportunity to get together in the run up to the much anticipated Rio+20 Conference on Sustainable Development; a key underpinning to the overall theme.
