International Council on Mining & Metals (ICCM) Launches Mine Closure Toolkit in Spanish
Posted: 2009/09/28

ICMM is a collaborative of 18 companies and 30 mining and commodity associations. It provides a means for joint action on sustainability-related issues important to the mining industry.

ICCM is pleased to announce the formal launch of the Spanish language version of its Planning for Integrated Mine Closure: Toolkit at the 29th mining convention PerúMin, in Arequipa, Peru.

The issue of mine closure is one of increasing concern all over the world, including Spanish-speaking countries.

ICMM trusts that this toolkit for mine closure will be a useful resource, and is grateful to the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) of the United Nations, for helping to distribute this material in Latin America.

Eduardo Chaparro, of ECLAC, introduced a workshop on mine closure organized by ICMM at PerúMin and hosted by ICMM president R. Anthony Hodge.

Mr Chaparro said:

“The workshop held by ICMM has clearly showcased the commitment of the organized mining industry to issues that all actors in mining acknowledge as compulsory, such as good practices and, of course, the concept of mine closure that ECLAC has been promoting throughout the region.”
