The UAB College of Arts and Sciences invites applications for the position of Chair of the Department of Philosophy. Assuming commensurate experience and accomplishments, the Chair will be appointed as a Professor with tenure. 

The Chair will lead the Department. Specifically, the Chair will recruit several new positions over the next five years, some in bioethics. The Chair will also support existing programs, enhance the department's research, and work with the Center for Ethics and Values in the Sciences. The new Chair should collaborate with other units within the College and University, especially the School of Medicine.

Good applicants will have a doctoral degree in Philosophy, preferably in Biomedical Ethics or a closely related area. They should possess a record of scholarship, as well as good teaching and service. The Department prefers candidates whose research complements the existing strengths of it and who can collaborate with scientists across UAB.
