CIM Magazine Feature: CBERN May 28 Event “Human Rights, Resource Extraction and First Nation Economic Development”

A report on the May 28, 2010 Event “Human Rights, Resource Extraction and First Nation Economic Development”, part of the CBERN 2010 Annual Conference, is featured in the August 2010 issue of the The Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum (CIM) Magazine.

The report summarizes the highlights of the CBERN event which included an exploration of emerging international perspectives on business and human rights, a panel discussion on the ethical responsibilities of Canadian mining companies engaged in resource extraction in developing countries, an interactive discussion on the new Impact-Benefit Agreement Community Toolkit and dialogue on First Nation impacts of mining developments in the Schefferville area. The CBERN event concluded with the task of identifying where research is required to support current efforts to advance Canadian CSR initiatives particularly in the resource sector.
