Network Coordinator (4 days per week)
Terms of Reference The Canadian Network on Corporate Accountability (CNCA) unites over 20 environmental, international development, faith-based, labour and social justice organizations around the shared objective of improving the accountability of Canadian corporations. Canadian civil society organizations created the CNCA in 2005 to provide a forum for information sharing and collaboration on activities related to the regulation of Canadian companies. The Network currently has a focus on mining, oil and gas companies that operate in developing countries.
The CNCA is hiring a part-time coordinator (4 days per week) who will report to the CNCA Steering Committee. The position will be based in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.
Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership within the CNCA
- Evaluate strategic opportunities
- Critically evaluate and disseminate information to members
- Organize regular CNCA meetings / conference calls
- Facilitate communication among CNCA members
- Administer list serves
- Coordinate meetings and liaise with key decision-makers (Government and Government Departments, Members of Parliament, industry, and civil society)
- Prepare analysis and position papers
- Coordinate CNCA actions (e.g. letters, media work) around key political events
- Promote awareness of CNCA and its objectives among the Canadian public
- Manage CNCA web site
- Liaise with media, including acting as spokesperson for the CNCA
- Coordinate CNCA public education campaigns
- Fundraise for the Network
- Research potential sources of funding for the CNCA
- Prepare a summary outlining funding possibilities
- Prepare funding proposals
- Manage funding relationships (financial and narrative reporting)
- Other duties as assigned by the Steering Committee
Reporting: The coordinator will report regularly to the CNCA Steering Committee.
Term: 15 months (May 17, 2010 to August 12, 2011) at 4 days per week
With possibility of extension and/or increasing to five days per week, based on securing additional funds.
Remuneration: Salary range of $50,000 - $55,000 per year (pro-rated to 4/5 time)
RRSP pension contribution, plus group insurance benefits (or equivalent)
Qualifications:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Experience coordinating a coalition
- Strong organizational skills
- Experience in organizing conferences and public events
- Experience in public interest advocacy and corporate accountability
- Experience with media relations
- Experience working with Parliamentarians
- Demonstrated commitment to social and environmental justice
- Self-directed
- Fundraising experience
- Bilingualism highly desirable
- Familiarity with the CNCA highly desirable
