Description

In May 2007 in Aden, nearly 50 lawyers and judges – young, senior, male and female – participated whole-heartedly and consistently in a one week intensive introductory legal training program hosted by the Aden Bar Association, the Aden Commercial Centre and the Law firm of Sheikh Tariq Abdullah, in partnership with the implementing partner, the Canadian non-governmental training organization – Bridges Social Development.

Training included awareness raising, skills transfer and strategy development at a personal and organizational basis in relation to:

  1. ethics and the profession of law
  2. professional development for lawyers
  3. arbitration and alternative dispute resolution.

This opportunity to train a meaningful group of lawyers and judges within the Aden Bar was made possible with the leadership of Bridges’ partners in Aden, and through the logistical and organizational support from Friends of Bridges in Yemen. Sheikh Tariq Abdullah and the Aden Bar Association members were directly responsible to provide leadership necessary to enable this training. Special thanks are also extended to Sharifa for her professional translation services.
