Me in Brief

I'm interested in the debates surrounding "corporate social responsibility" as well as issues pertaining to the conduct Canadian corporations in the extractive industries operating overseas. In particular, I'm interested in debates surrounding the regulations by which such corporations conduct themselves – from voluntary mechanisms to binding legislation.

My main research project at present is my doctoral dissertation, which examines theories of communication, power and the constitution of subjectivity through social movements that confront northern-backed projects that bill themselves as "development" under neoliberal regimes of governmentality.

I'm also working on a feature-length video documentary examining the struggles of communities in Guatemala & Honduras that reside near Canadian-owned open-pit heap-leach gold/silver mines. Recommended Resources: Of possible interest: 2007 "Desalojo" ("Eviction"). A short documentary examining violent and illegal evictions of indigenous Mayan Q'eqchi communities in eastern Guatemala, on behalf of Canadian mining company Skye Resources.
