Me in Brief
Personal and Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainable Development are Dr. Burton's areas of teaching and research interest in the newly formed Faculty of Management on the Okanagan Campus of the University of British Columbia.
Legal practice with various ministries of the Government of Ontario, alternative dispute resolution as a practitioner and trainer, teaching ethics at the Schulich School of Business (York University), doctoral work in ethics and ordained ministry within the United Church of Canada are the highlights of a varied background that provides a broad and integrative approach.
Collaboration, compassion and commitment to helping people and organizations create better relationships, stronger communities and a sustainable future are his key values.
The sustainable enterprise - an organization with responsible management of change, risk and rewards, finances, environment, and sensitivity to the rights and customs of indigenous peoples - is a key theme for UBC Okanagan's Faculty of Management.
Nowhere is the concept of the sustainable enterprise more important than in the Faculty of Management's research programs. Its faculty and students work on sustainable enterprise research in each area, making real-world connections between the principles of management and the fundamentals of business and life.
The focus is not on corporate giants, but on vibrant entrepreneur-led ventures and the management-led mid-sized organizations that evolve from them.
