Our History
The Canadian Business Ethics Research Network (CBERN) was developed through a SSHRC project funded in 2004. The project has evolved through many stages, including a series of cross-Canada, cross-sectoral workshops and a series of newsletters tracking the development of the Network.  The workshops indicated the need for coordinating efforts in business ethics research in the country, which lent itself well to a web-based forum. Information regarding the Network was first posted to the web via the York University website.

CBERN aims to promote knowledge-sharing and partnerships within the field of business ethics and across private, governmental, voluntary and academic sectors. CBERN also aims to support work from inception to dissemination, from graduate student research and fellowship opportunities to promoting the projects of established professionals. Each of the three primary nodes of the website - Research, Capacity Building and Public Dialogue - describes their function towards this end.

CBERN aims to create a web portal to link existing cross-sectoral Canadian resources in business ethics. We also aim to provide a home for projects that would benefit from a web forum, yet which do not have the resources to do so on a stand-alone basis.

CBERN is a network that weaves together the currently fragmented insights emerging from business ethics, corporate social responsibility, sustainable development, triple bottom line and corporate governance research.

The network extends across the country and encourages the development of regional as well as national research clusters. It exists to facilitate and encourage research, courses and programs, executive and professional development, research and management tools, cases and public dialogue. It welcomes First Nations learning and perspectives. It encourages, supports and facilitates effective community engagement, and community development.

We welcome information, ideas and links to people, organizations, projects, events and websites that share our commitment to support, encourage and research ethical business practice and economic, environmental and social sustainability.
